Find The Right Swimsuit For Your Body Type

Posted by admin on November 15th, 2009

Finding the right bikini for your body is an annual ordeal. You can nearly always guarantee that if the bottoms fit, the top will be too small, and if the top fits, the bottoms will make your backside look massive. I’ve got some top tips for you on choosing the right swimwear to flatter your body shape.
Pear shaped
The pear shape is said to be British women’s most common body type and it just means you have a larger bottom half than top half. It doesn’t sound a very flattering shape, but actually it just means you are more voluptuous on the bottom half and as a plus you probably have a lovely flat stomach too! If you want to draw attention away from your bottom half, a great way to do this is by wearing a pretty and detailed bikini top to draw attention to your bust. By maximising your bust it’ll be easy for you to look sexy and voluptuous in your bikini! Try to avoid bandeau styles as these will only minimise your curves. Bikini bottoms that cut across the widest part of your hips will look the most flattering on you. Choose bikini bottoms with side ties so you can adjust them to the most flattering position for you, but keep away from boy shorts as these will make your hips look bigger. Always make sure the bottom half of your bikini fits well, as there’s nothing guaranteed to make you look bigger than ill-fitting or too tight bikini bottoms.

Apple shaped
If you’re a classic apple shape, then you probably have a less well defined waist and smaller hips. Actually it’s not that you don’t have a small waist, it’s just that you have such slim hips! On the bonus side you probably have a great bust and lovely long legs too! So focus on these and create the illusion of curves by picking bikinis with string ties, ruffles, belt, or pretty bow details. Try to steer clear of too small a bikini bottom as these won’t flatter your shape, instead go for bikini bottoms with high cut legs that lengthen your legs and draw attention away from your waist. Sexy boy shorts would also work well on you. Avoid halter necks because these will just lengthen your top half, also steer clear of horizontal stripes as these will just draw attention back to your waist. If you feel you need to cover up your tummy chose a tankini or swimsuit in a nice simple style and a pretty pattern.
Hourglass
If you’re lucky enough to have an hourglass figure then you can flaunt it in just about any style and that includes even the teeniest of bikinis! Sexy high cut bikini bottoms will look good on you and will make your legs look long. Just make sure you don’t squeeze those curves into too small a bikini because you don’t want any wardrobe malfunctions on the beach!
Slim or atheletic
A slim or atheletic figure may lack some of the curves of an hourglass, but as a bonus you’ll have a slim waist and a slight figure – lucky you! Bikini tops with ruffles or pretty prints will look flattering on you. A halter neck is also a good look as it’ll help to accentuate your bust, you could also try bikini tops with extra padding for maximum effect! You’ll look great in boy shorts and bikinis with tie sides which will help to give you a curvier look. Try to avoid boring mono block swimsuits as these will be the least flattering for you – pretty pattern and lots of feminine detail are the key for you!
Top tips for looking good on the beach!
The following are not strictly body types, but they’re probably amongst the biggest issues we women face when picking the right bikini or swimwear, so we’ve given them their very own sections!
Big bust
If this is you and you’re lucky enough to be a curvy lady, then a good choice for a larger bust is a halter neck bikini because they can give you good support as well as a sexy cleavage! It’s probably best to avoid strapless bandeau styles as they won’t give you much support and can look unflattering. Likewise bikinis with tiny tops are best avoided as they won’t provide you with enough coverage and you could well find yourself popping out all over! If you have real problems finding bikinis to fit both your top and bottom halves, then trying buying them separately so you can mix and match sizes. If support is a problem for you, then look out for underwired bikini tops or tank top bikinis with wide straps which will give you that all important extra support.
Small bust
Ladies with smaller busts are lucky because they can wear lots of different styles, including bandeau styles which only really look amazing on you! Make sure you check out bikinis with ruffles and tiny tri top bikinis because only you can wear these well! Go for bright colours on the beach this summer, and check out the Brazilian style bikinis which generally have smaller tops making them perfect for you. For extra impact, try bikinis with padding. It’s always a good idea to choose a bikini that has adjustable straps to ensure a good fit because loose bikini tops are definitely not a flattering look.
Now for the rest!
If there are any specific bits and pieces you want to conceal or hide, take a look at our checklist below on how to deal with the most common body shape issues:

  • Short legs – pick a bikini bottom or swimsuit cut high on the leg as these will help make your legs look longer. It’s probably best to avoid boy shorts and bikinis with skirts as these will just draw attention down making your legs look shorter.
  • Short body – again, you’ll find a high cut leg is flattering and will help to elongate your legs. Also wearing a bikini that has a patterned top and solid colour bottoms can help to lengthen the body. Try to avoid boy shorts and bikinis with skirts because by drawing attention down these will only make you look shorter.
  • Long body – you’ve got the opposite problem here! You’re probably a complete clothes horse and everything looks great on you. In fact bikinis were made for you because they’ll help to break up your long body. You can wear bikinis with lots of lovely detail at the bust and hip, plus boy shorts will also look good on you. Just try to avoid swimsuits with vertical sripes or in dark mono block colours as these will make your body look longer. Instead go for horizontal stripes or some lovely bright summer colours. Bandeau bikini tops can also help by giving width to your bust
  • Big bottom – if you want to minimise your bottom it’s best to avoid boy shorts, very skimpy bottoms, or anything with too many ruffles or detail, as these will just draw attention to this area. Instead try a bigger bikini bottom in a solid colour with a full side as ties will just emphasise this area. If you’re really conscious of your bottom you might want to consider a bikini with a little skirt. But you can also draw attention away from your bottom half with a pretty detailed bikini top – ruffles are good here, in fact anything that emphasises your top half will help to draw attention away from your bottom.
  • No waist – like the apple shape which we talked about earlier, it’s not that you don’t have a waist, just that your slim hips draw attention away from it. But you can create the illusion of curves with a bikini that has ruffles, bows or detail at the hips. If you have a small bust, a strapless bandeau bikini top will also look good on you. Just try to avoid swimsuits in a solid colour or with horizontal stripes as these will be the least flattering for you.
  • Big thighs – you can draw attention away from your legs by emphasising your top half, or by wearing high legged bikinis. A bikini bottom with the string tied high on the leg will look very flattering on you!
  • Wide shoulders – the key to looking good for you is to balance out your body, so you want to emphasise your bottom half. Avoid plunging necklines and teeny tiny bikini bottoms because these will not be flattering to your body shape and will emphasise your shoulders. Instead opt for bikini bottoms in bright colours, bold prints, and with ties or details at the hip as these will draw attention to your bottom half and help to balance out your shoulders.
  • Short waist – lengthen your body with bikini bottoms that have a low waist or are low rise. Also bikini bottoms with a belt at the hips will look good on you.

Last but not least!
Just remember to find the perfect bikini or swimsuit before you go on your hols. Prices at holiday destinations can be very high and sizes can vary widely to UK sizes. Plus you don’t want to waste any of your precious holiday time hunting down the perfect bikini – so make sure you take it with you!

A Basic Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation

Posted by admin on November 15th, 2009

A Basic Vitamin/Mineral Supplementation

Most people think that vitamin and mineral supplements are pretty much alike. This is partly due to the health food manufacturers grouping them in one or more pills. The truth however, is very different, and needs to be understood clearly.
Vitamins are non-toxic (with a few exceptions) and overdosing merely means possibly “wasting” money, as the excess is excreted easily without damage. So, since vitamins are relatively cheap, by “overdosing” you are assuring your body enough for good health, even if some is “wasted”.

The exceptions to the above are the oil-based vitamins. These are A, D, K, and E. These are stored in the liver, and may cause toxic problems over time. That’s the bad news – the good news is that it’s very difficult to “overdose” on any of these today. The. FDA laws strictly limit dosages of these. An adult can safely take up to 25,000 (International Units (IU) per day of vitamin A, and up to 2000 IU of vitamin D. Vitamin E levels of over 1600 IU per day have shown no toxic effects (probably because E is used up in the body as an antioxidant). Few people even take K, as it is mostly manufactured within the body by “friendly” bacteria in the gut.  All the B complex, and C complex vitamins are water soluble, and any excess simply goes out the urine pathway.

Each person absorbs both vitamins and/or minerals differently. This is individuality. One person may require 10 times more than a vitamin (or mineral) than another – in the same family. Another reason for taking much more than you might actually need. For example, some survivors of war prison camps actually required up to 100 times of some of the B complex vitamins than is “normally” required for health. This is due to vitamin deficiencies suffered and this trauma caused the ability to absorb these vitamins to change.
Minerals are very different and even nutritional minerals can become toxic.
One example is copper, necessary for manufacturing blood, but causing depression and schizophrenia when too much is absorbed and stored. Of course, mercury, arsenic, cadmium (smokers), lead, and aluminum are all known to cause brain problems in toxic amounts.
The “balance” of certain minerals with others is very important to health as well. For example, the balance of calcium to magnesium is important as these two form the electrical battery that keeps the heart beating. They also provide calcium to make bones and fingernails, and magnesium is required for many enzymes needed at each chemical step from blood calcium to bone calcium.
Sodium and potassium are another pair that supply the power to move material into and out of cells in the body. There are many more such balances.  My book, “The Health Revolution” may be found on the website below has much more info on vitamins and minerals.
Many people think that because they take a popular advertised multi-vitamin with the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) they are OK. Even worse are the cereal ads that depend on the RDA!  WRONG!  No competent nutritionist or person who has studied vitamins believes this false and misleading advertising “spin”.
The RDA was originally set up many years ago as a result of a study by labs. Guess what? These labs were at General Foods, Kellogg’s, and Nabisco. A very definite vested interest indeed!   In addition, it was originally set up as the MDA   (Minimum Daily Allowance.  That’s a MINIMUM of each vitamin or mineral to needed to PREVENT the nutritional deficiency diseases of scurvy, pellagra, and beri-beri.  The ads would have us believe these amounts are the minimum (or recommended) for “good health”.  Not so!
The fact is that these once daily popular vitamin supplements do a lot of harm, because too many people think that they are getting good supplementation.  They will prevent actual deficiency diseases – that’s true enough, but they do not have enough to ensure even fair health.
75 mg of Vitamin C is about the amount in one orange, and while it may keep a person from severe scurvy, it isn’t even close for good health.  The RDA for a 150 pound primate (ape for example) is 4000mg (4 grams).  Since all primates (including us) have the same basic body needs for vitamin C, how does 75 mg make for good health?  Apes are very expensive – are you less so?
The RDA might only keep you from very severe nutritional diseases! For better health you need much more, as every competent nutritionist can tell you.
With the above factors in mind, the following basic list is what I have been recommending to my family, friends, students, and patients for many years. All have experienced better health as a result, some dramatically. This is the “basic” list, and additions should be made for individual needs. (See my book for much more information such as B6 for PMS, E for heart, and much more).
For the “average” person in fairly good health, I recommend Solgar VM75 1/day or equivalent, preferably taken with, or after, breakfast. This supplies the base amounts of B complex, natural E, D, A, and a good average daily amount of minerals.
I have been recommending and using Solgar VM-75 (found in most independent health food stores) for many years with excellent results.  However, it’s true that the water soluble vitamins only last 4-8 hours in the body, so twice a day supplementation may be somewhat better than once a day, if you are not quite so healthy. (I still take the VM-75, and I’m in pretty good health for my age – 81 (2008).
Four Grams of additional Vitamin C. (4000 mg). Preferably split with 2gm AM and 2gm PM. This is a MINIMUM for continued good health. In the cold/flu season, make it 3 AM and 3 PM minimum.  What is not well known is that Vitamin C is both a bactericide and a viricide.  However, you have to saturate the blood to kill ALL of either present.  If this is not done, and even a few are left – they quickly get back to strength.  They double in numbers in about 200 minutes.  If you know binary math, from 1 microbe to 1 million microbes in less that 400 minutes!
By the way, Vitamin C in these amounts will also tend to prevent mineral toxicity, as Vitamin C joins with all excess minerals in the blood, makes them water soluble and takes them out via the urine route.
Some form of additional calcium and magnesium is also a good idea, but here the guidelines are pretty blurred.  Unless the calcium intake is balanced with the magnesium intake, there will usually be an excess of blood calcium.  This causes those pesky and painful bone spurs, kidney stones, calcium deposits in various parts of the body, etc.
The “usual” recommendation for calcium found in most nutritional books is a 2/1 ratio of Ca/Mg.  I have been convinced by results that this is NOT correct for most persons in our culture.  I recommend that equal or near equal amounts are used as supplementation
In our present culture with a lot of meat and dairy products, not to mention the media hype about calcium – and the fewer amounts of leafy vegetables consumed, we usually get too much more calcium and too little magnesium. Without magnesium (and other vitamins and minerals), the blood calcium can’t get changed chemically into bone calcium. Accordingly, I now recommend that these supplements be more closely balanced. For a more accurate indication of how much to take, a hair analysis will give you much better ratios and recommendations for better mineral balance.
Summary of Basic MINIMUM Supplements
Multi equal to VM-75 1/day (Children from 9 years old to 17 can take ½ VM-75)
Vitamin C – 4 Grams (4000 mg) per 150 lbs of weight- more in flu season. Children by body weight.
Additional Vitamin E – After 30 – add 400 IU per day.  After 50 – add 600 IU per day.
Calcium/magnesium – As stated above, this depends on your diet. If you eat meat and/or dairy products, you need to balance this calcium intake with magnesium. I now recommend taking approximately the same amount of magnesium as calcium. While the correct ratio of intake is 2/1, meat and particularly dairy eaters get much more calcium in their diets without supplementation, and therefore need more magnesium for balance.
There are many additional vitamins/minerals and/or other supplements that should be added to the above “basic” regime, depending on individual needs.  While the above is a very good basic regimen, and if you aren’t in pretty good health, you will feel better within a day or so after starting on it.  At 79 years old, I’m in pretty good health, and I’ve been taking it for over 25 years.   I hope this helps you and yours.

Alternative Therapiey for Autism

Posted by admin on November 14th, 2009

Alternate Therapies for Autism
This page is designed to help you do research finding help and solutions that improve the autism symptoms. You can use this reference page to search further on many and various therapies that have helped others.  New products and theories are showing up all the time.
There are many different therapies that have helped many people with “mental problems”, ranging from ADD/ADHD/Autism to depression, and even schizophrenia.  Some (such as EEG Biofeedback  (aka Neurofeedback  (NFB)) or End Point Titration (EPT) or Hyperbaric (oxygen tanks), etc, that now have inexpensive alternates are not included.  Google these “names” if info is desired on them.
   1.  The newest and certainly the least expensive “brain training” method is the Neuroliminal Training (NT) system.  This has now been shown to be an excellent and inexpensive alternate to both the very expensive Neurofeedback (NFB) training, and Hyperbaric Oxygen.  Results are very similar to Neurofeedback  (both EEG and HEG BF).  For a fraction of the cost of those, it offers an affordable and much better alternative to Ritalin and other dangerous drugs for mid and low income families who simply cannot afford Neurofeedback or Hyperbaric.  Both NFB  and NT work to eliminate allergen affects causing mental problems of all types.  http://ADHD-Autism.com for more info.
   2.  Allergens are almost always part of all “brain problems”, There’s a simple and free (except for some detective work) way to detect them.  Even if you use the NT or NFB Training, this is a good idea!  Check out Dr Bate’s FREE Caveman Diet and pulse test at:  http://drbate.com/Ref/pulse.html
   3.  For the ADD to Autism continuum (as well as depression and schizophrenia), there is a good possibility that mercury used in infant or childhood vaccines (or other toxic minerals) may be the real underlying problem.  These mineral toxins MUST be chelated out of the body.  There are various old and new methods of doing this:
       a.  Vitamin C in large doses:  This has two advantages;  it’s relatively cheap, and it’s good for overall health.  In my former practice, I used it with excellent success in many schizophrenia cases.  In general, it is very safe, unless the patient has an allergy to corn (not that unusual).  For smaller children, I would recommend 1 gram (1000 mg) at each meal per 40 pounds per child.  Overdosing only causes diarrhea, and it might be necessary to work up to this amount if such occurs.  If a corn allergy is suspected, then use Calcium Ascorbate, either in powder or pill form.  I buy the cheapest form of Ascorbic acid from Cosco, but my wife (with corn allergy) has to use the Calcium Ascorbate.
       b.  Injecting chelating chemical:  A therapy where a chelating drug (EDTA) is injected into a vein for an hour or so in a clinic office.  This is also quite expensive.  Not recommended.
       c.  Zeolite in liquid form: A newer method taken by mouth (and relatively expensive).  This is actually a form of lava rock that is very porous, and this porosity attracts heavy metals (mercury, lead, copper, etc) binds to it, and carries it out via the urine/kidney pathway. The reports are excellent, but it’s marketed by a sort of MultiLevelMarketing (MLM) scheme that makes it more expensive. Base retail price is about $50, but if you become a distributor, it drops to $33 or so. You can get more details by Googling “zeolite”.
       d.  Glutathione Supplements:  There’s a (new to me) supplement specifically designed to raise Glutathione levels in the body.  Glutathione is a natural combination of amino acids that is a powerful anti-oxident with several other interesting features:
It’s a major part of the immune system often overlooked by scientists.
Glutathione detoxifies the body by taking poisons, including mercury and other toxic minerals out.  (Similar to chelation, but most other toxins as well as minerals.)
It’s not absorbed well when taken as a direct supplement.  This is important as there are many supplements that contain glutathione that are not generally effective.
Low levels of glutathione are found in all autistic children, as well as many other sick or toxic persons.  These low levels do not allow excretion well.  This explains why hair, blood, and urine tests of mercury (and other minerals) do not show accurately what is stored in the body.
Price of supplement program – $85 for a 28 day supply.  Again not cheap, but this seems to be worth the price if you can afford it.  For more details go to: http://maxgxl.com/brainadvance
    4.  There’s a company that advocates a special “Body Ecology Diet”,  This has had good success with autism and virtually all other health issues.  It includes many products designed to effectively make the human body work better and more efficiently.  It includes some very good probiotics as well as others that help get rid of yeast overgrowth & the “Leaky Gut Syndrome”.  Again, not cheap, but worth it, if it is affordable for your family.  For more information:  http://www.bodyecology.com
   5.  What do digestive enzymes have to do with ADD/ADHD and autism?   A “leaky” gut syndrome” produces more allergy/sensitivity, and enzymes with meals break down the food better lessening the need for the “leaky gut”.  This has helped many ADD/ADHD as well as autistic persons.
          a. There is a bulletin board sponsored by Kirkman Labs that has a forum on special digestive enzymes.  Join at: enzymesandautism-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
          b. Another company that has an excellent line of enzymes is New Beginnings.  In addition to the enzymes, they have a lot of Gluten/Casein Free Nutritional Supplements, and a “purified source” of cholesterol (see below). Info and catalogs at http://nbnus.com
   6.  At the recent Orlando conference, I also learned that many autistics have low cholesterol, and supplementing with two egg yolks a day may improve many symptoms.  This is certainly easy and cheap to try.  If the person has an allergy to eggs (not uncommon) then a “purified” cholesterol may be obtained from the New Beginnings supplier above that is non allergenic.
   7.  For autistic (and ADD/ADHD) children, there’s a lot of evidence that a gluten free and dairy free diet can help considerably.   Google gfcf for more info.  (The Caveman Diet above includes this and many more of the commonly allergenic foods.  Try it for a week or so, then switch to gfcf.)
   8.  The latest research also shows that supplementing with fish oil can dramatically improve the ADD-Autism set of problems.  I use the salmon fish oil from Our Health Co-op  (http://www.ourhealthcoop.com)  This web based health food store is one of the best for both quality and pricing.  (I have no financial interest in this company or Solgar, but I do buy several supplements from them.)
   9.  There’s a drug therapy called LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone).  While it is a drug, it seems that in low doses, it can significantly decrease many disease problems (symptoms) in autism, HIV/Aids, cancers, etc.  For more information  http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org   Some good results for autistics have been reported.
  10.  Another new nutritional “therapy” consists of supplemental glyconutrients.  A company called Mannotech is marketing these by an MLM (which I hate), and they apparently are helping with some ADD-Autism symptoms.  For more details on glyconutrients – a new found essential nutrient – check out both Mannotech and glyconutrients by googling them.
  11.  There’s also a therapy technique called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) that has also shown some good results with ADD/ADHD, depression, etc.  This was put together by Gary Craig, and his website containing lots of free and almost free information may be found at http://www.emofree.com
  12.  Some have had good results with NAET (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique). However, results are mixed, and Dr Nambudripad has been unhappy with many practitioners who do not follow her technique carefully.  There is further information at  http://www.naet.com/subscribers/index_ns.html
  13.  There’s a system similar to NAET called Bioset.  There’s a book “Food Allergy Cure” by Dr. Ellen Cutler, which explains using Bioset to remove allergies.  This can also be done at home as the book explains “How To”.  Check your local library and see if they can order it for you, or you can probably get it from Amazon.com.  Google Bioset.
  14.  Don’t forget a very important way to improve all mental “diseases”.  Help to solve the “leaky  gut syndrome” by cleaning out the gut (http://drbate.com/Ref/gut.html), and by supplementing with a good vitamin/mineral regimen (http://drbate.com/vitmin.html.  This should be a first step.
  15. Finally, one of the oldest, cheapest & effective “remedies” of all – magnesium!  It’s been known for years as the “calming chemical”.  In our culture we seldom get enough and this deficiency may worsen many mental problems.  It’s safe as if you overdose, like vitamin C, you only get diarrhea!.  Milk of Magnesia and Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulphate) are two very old good products that are often overlooked today . For autistic and ADHD children in particular, try baths using Epsom Salts.  It’s helped a lot of kids and adults.  I prefer Magnesium Citrate daily for supplemental use.  I get this from the Health Co-op mentioned above.
There is also a lot of free information on my “drbate.com” website, and you can get a free copy of the full book “The Health Revolution” by signing up for my free newsletter on that home page.
Also consider joining the Discussion Group/newsletters/bulletin board moderated by Dr Bate.  This very active group is devoted to Orthomolecular, Holistic & drugfree Therapies.  Subscribe by sending an email to:  Orthomolecular-subscribe@yahoogroups.  There are many “experts” in all aspects of holistic and orthomolecular therapies who will happily answer your questions free.  While a minority, there are still many people that are devoted to helping others.

Cholesterol and Heart Diseases – Exposed

Posted by admin on November 13th, 2009

You must have heard of the term blood lipids? Which is a medical name given to all the fatty substance in the blood, including cholesterol? Cholesterol is a soft, fat-like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all body cells. It is produced by the body, and is important for the body to function properly. In fact, the body makes about 80 per cent, the rest 20 per cent comes from dietary sources. Without cholesterol, our bodies would be unable to function properly. About half of American adults have high level of cholesterol and about 1 in 5 has a high-risk zone level.

Cholesterol is particularly important in the formation of brain cells, nerve tissue, and the spinal cord. It helps to produce bile that metabolize fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K. But too much cholesterol in the blood is a major risk for coronary heart disease and stroke.

As we all know, fat deposits in the arterial wall is the major cause of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). The deposits of fats in the arteries make the wall narrower and so reduce blood flow to the heart muscles (myocardium). The arteries can become clogged and narrow, and blood flow reduced. If this plaque ruptures, a blood clot may form here or a piece may break off and travel in the bloodstream. If a blood clot blocks the blood flow to your heart, it causes a heart attack. If a blood clot blocks an artery leading to the brain, a stroke results. This whole process is more likely to happen to a person with a high level of bad blood cholesterol in the blood.

But Cholesterol is difficult to measure because the level in the blood includes several different types, and put simply, there are good and bad cholesterol in our body. There is enough evidence to show that the risk of Coronary heart disease rises as total cholesterol level increases.

First get to know the different types of cholesterol to determine which one is actually a threat to our health. Blood cholesterol is referred to as total cholesterol (TC) and there are two types:

High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C) often called the good cholesterol helps to protect against heart diseases. This type of cholesterol transfers the fatty deposits away from the arteries and they are usually low in hyperinsulinism which is dangerous to the heart.

Low-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) is a bad form of cholesterol which deposits blood fats in the arteries and therefore are associated with increased risk of heart attack. Triglycerides are another common type of fat in the body. They’re a good energy source that our body also makes mostly. High levels of blood triglycerides are often found in people who are overweight, have high cholesterol levels, heart problems, and diabetes.

So, we no know that a measure of cholesterol by itself does not count since if the cholesterol level is high, it may be due to high HDL-C (good one) or high LDL-C (bad one). So a breakdown of the type of cholesterol has to be measured.

There is enough evidence to show that the risk of heart disease rises as total cholesterol (TC) and LDL-C levels increases. And because HDL-C is the good cholesterol, it is expected that high level of it will help lower the risk of coronary heart disease. So high level of HDL-C appears to neutralize the potential adverse effect of raised total cholesterol level in our blood.

Blood cholesterol level are measured by blood test and the ideal total is less than 5.0mmol/L. for instance, in the Framingham Heart study, people with a total cholesterol level of about 6.5mmol/L had a heart attack risk two or three times higher than people with level less than 5mmol/L.

Your genetic makeup is partly responsible for determining your blood cholesterol level. Some families carry genes for raised level of various kinds of blood fats. But in all, diet plays the most important role in determining cholesterol levels in the body.

Animal and dairy fats like beef, pork, eggs, cheese, some vegetable oil raises blood cholesterol, do the first step of preventing heart diseases significantly in both men and women is to reduce the amount of saturated or animal fats contents in meals. But rather, replace animal and dairy fats with vegetable fats which are low-saturated and may lower
blood cholesterol. Eat more of fruits, wholegrain meal, and fresh vegetables. Do physical activities at least 30 minutes on most or all days of the week.

Many people who have angina or a heart attack have high lipid level which are partly as a result of diet and partly genetic. By good and careful dieting plan, you can reduce blood cholesterol levels by 10-20 per cent. For greater lowering of cholesterol, drugs are usually necessary. Drugs like Statins, Resins and Fibrates are very useful. See your doctor for effective treatment plan.

Give Relief to Your Back With Memory Foam Mattresses

Posted by admin on November 11th, 2009

If you are someone who has to deal with chronic back pain, you already know how a good night’s sleep can be. Regular mattress and box spring does not define the nature of the distribution of aid that your body needs, and you spend the nights in launching and turning instead of sleeping well. The result? Do you wake up feeling tired and in much more pain than you did when you went to bed? You do not have to deal with this more, however. There are thousands of people who have the same problem, and reliefs were given the option of memory foam mattress.

Memory foam mattresses are made from a special material that was first introduced by NASA decades ago. This material is sensitive to pressure and temperature, enabling it to conform to your body’s natural and gives you the outlines of an additional support when you need it most. With a memory foam mattress, you will be able to enjoy the deep, rejuvenating sleep that was to escape all these years.

If there is a disadvantage of this exciting technology is the cost. Brand Name Mattress memory can take you back more than a thousand dollars, which is quite a bit of money for most people. Fortunately, there are a number of outlets, both traditional and online, that offer these products at significantly reduced prices. Not all of the promotional versions of memory foam mattresses are of comparable quality, however, if there are some things you should watch.

Density is one of the most important things on a memory foam mattress. Most of the foam is dense; it will be more sensitive to temperature and pressure – higher density quite better mattress material. The most expensive of the foam in the industry have a density of about five and a half pounds, while many cheaper discount mattresses are provided for about three pounds. The difference is that you’re sure to notice. Make sure that the density rating of your memory foam mattress is a minimum of four books for the greatest benefit.

In addition to the density rating, pay attention to the reputation of the brand you are considering buying, as some are known for their low durability. Nobody wants to spend several hundred dollars buying new mattress memory foam which gives two to three years of service.

Remember that reputable retailers will provide a long term, money-back guarantee on every mattress they sell.
